INDIANA, Pa. – IUP used a third quarter goal by
Georgiana Chiavacci and a 60-minute stout defense to pull out a 2-0 win over visiting Bloomsburg Saturday afternoon at George P. Miller Stadium.
Freshman
Blaise Cugini added an insurance goal with 50 seconds to play in the third quarter while the IUP defense didn't allow a second half shot by Bloomsburg.
The Crimson Hawks improved to 3-0 with their second straight shutout victory. They've now outscored teams 8-1 on the season. It marks IUP's first 3-0 start since 2011.
IUP overcame two early scoring chances from Bloomsburg (0-3) as the Huskies had two penalty corners in the first three minutes that resulted in just one shot on goal.
The Crimson Hawks limited Bloomsburg's offensive chances all afternoon as the Huskies finished with just three shots, all in the first quarter.
IUP was limited to just one shot in the first half but unleased six in the third quarter alone. The first score came just over one minute into the second half as
Kimberly Kelly's shot bounced off BU goalie Abby Shaffer's pads with Chiavacci taking advantage of the rebound opportunity to deposit the ball into the right corner of the cage.
Cugini added IUP's second score after back-to-back penalty corners led to a scramble in front of the cage that resulted in the freshman's third goal of the season.

The Crimson Hawks remain at home for their next contest as they host Seton Hill (0-2) Wednesday night.
