Crimson Hawks back on track with non-conference road win

FROSTBURG, Md. - Carly Fordham scored a pair of goals as the IUP field hockey team got back in the win column with a 4-1 non-conference road victory over Frostburg State Wednesday night. 

The Crimson Hawks entered the game on a two-game slide but rebounded impressively with their fourth four-goal game of the season. IUP is now 9-4 on the year with three games left to play.

Fordham gave the Hawks an early lead as she connected on a penalty stroke 5:38 into the night. She added another score one minute into the second quarter with Blaise Cugini and Rory Cahill both assisting off a penalty corner. 

The Hawks added two third quarter goals just minutes apart, with Cugini and Cahill going back-to-back at 34:05 and 37:30. Shelby Harnish added the helper on Cahill's score. 

IUP finished with a 12-7 advantage in shots and 8-6 advantage in corners. Goalie Amanda Zaner had four saves in the cage.

Up next
The Crimson Hawks get back to conference play in the final week of the season with three games over seven days. The No. 1 teams comes to Indiana as IUP hosts undefeated Shippensburg Sunday on Senior Day. The Hawks then play Mercyhurst in Erie on Wednesday and host Kutztown Saturday night, October 30 in the regular season finale. 

IUP is currently tied with Mansfield for the sixth and final PSAC tournament spot with a 3-4 conference record, athough the Mounties do own the head-to-head tiebreaker.
