LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - IUP freshman defensive end
Tyrone Fowler Jr. was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
Fowler had a huge game in IUP's regular season finale win, putting up 3.0 tackles-for-loss, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble as the Crimson Hawks rallied for a 31-24 victory at West Chester.
He had arguably the biggest play of the game, getting a strip sack of QB Shane Dooley with a minute left, setting up the Crimson Hawks at the West Chester 14-yard line. The turnover led to the game-winning touchdown with 14 seconds left.
His sacks were part of a season-high eight for the IUP defense on the afternoon, the most in a game since 2014 against Edinboro.
This was the seventh PSAC weekly honor of the season for the Crimson Hawks, who wrapped their season with a 7-3 record. Other winners included
Raunya Mitchell (defense) and
Dylan Grubbs (special teams) against Kutztown,
Duane Brown (special teams) against Clarion, and Harry Woodery (offense),
Charles Ingram (defense) and
Tyler Luther (special teams) against Slippery Rock.
