CLEVELAND - The IUP swim teams returned to Cleveland State's Magnus Cup for the first time in two years, opening up the three-day weekend in the pool on Thursday.
After the first day of competition the IUP women are 7th of 11 teams while the men are sixth of seven.
IUP swimmers tallied 14 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and one NCAA B qualifying time on Thursday.
Paige Mikesell posted the NCAA B standard, posting a time of 2:04.10 in the 200 IM.
Also in the 200 IM,
Rachel Johnson and
Claire Mikesell posted PSAC times at 2:07.01 and 2:08.92, respectively.Â
AB McCullough nearly hit her own NCAA time in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.98.
Iliana Oikonomou and
Amber Baldani also had fast 50 times at 24.29 and 24.56.Â
IUP women also had three PSAC 500 free qualifers in
Olivia Santee (5:08.30),
Heather Hartmann (5:11.48), and
Clara Gracia (5:13.76).
Two men's swimmers nearly hit NCAA B standard times -
Luke Mikesell and
Thomas McGillan. Mikesell's PSAC time came in the 500 free at 4:36.96 while McGillan's came in the 50 at 20.86.Â
Joining Mikesell has 500 free qualifers were
Kyle Thome (4:45.06) and
Blake Hendricks (4:46.01). Two more PSAC qualifiers included
Ryan Hartmann and
David McLean, both in the 200 IM at 1:57.73 and 1:58.56.
