INDIANA, Pa. - Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) ranks third in the 2021-22 Dixon Trophy Standings as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) announced the fall update of its annual overall department award.

The Dixon Trophy is awarded at the end of each academic year to the league's most successful program based on conference playoff and/or regular-season finish. Standings are compiled based on average score for all PSAC Championship sports each school sponsors. Equal to its total membership, each conference sport champion is awarded 18 points and a descending point value is given for respective place finishes. The second-through last-place values vary depending on the number of teams that sponsor the sport.

IUP posted an average overall score of 11.50 in seven fall sports to sit behind leader Edinboro with 13.90 and second place Gannon with 13.50. West Chester is fourth with an 11.19 average and Kutztown rounds out the top-5 with an average off 11.08.

IUP has the highest men's sport average of the 18 PSAC schools with a score of 15.17. The men's golf program won IUP's only team conference title in the fall, which is good for 18 points. The men's cross country team finished fourth at the conference meet to score 15 and football scored 12.5. The second highest men's average came from Kutztown with 14.00.

IUP's women's sports averaged 8.75 points, tied for 10th among the 18 schools. Field hockey had the highest score with 10 points average after securing a postseason berth.

PSAC's Dixon Trophy
Introduced in the 1995-96 academic year, the award is named in honor of F. Eugene Dixon, Jr., former chairman of Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education's Board of Governors. Since then, eight PSAC institutions have claimed the Dixon Trophy. Shippensburg leads the league with eight victories, followed by West Chester's five. Lock Haven and Bloomsburg have three titles apiece, and Cal U follows with two victories. Kutztown, Slippery Rock, and Millersville have each won once.
