INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP baseball program enters its second week of the season with doubleheaders against familiar conference rival Slippery Rock, and non-league foe Frostburg State. The Crimson Hawks will head to Slippery Rock for two on Friday and will host Frostburg State on Saturday.
Both series are set for a 12 p.m. first pitch.
Spectators
IUP Athletics is allowing spectators at outdoor events this spring. Any fans visiting Owen J. Dougherty Field are asked to keep socially distant from each other, participating teams, student-athletes, school officials and other game day personnel. When not able to socially distant, please wear masks.
Last Time Out
>> The Crimson Hawks split its 2021 season opening doubleheader against Malone on Sunday. IUP took game one at a score of 5-1, but fell short in the second game of the series to the Pioneers by a score of 12-6.

JP Pellis had a phenomenal outing on the mound in the first game, posting five strikeouts and allowing only one hit over 4.1 innings.
>>
Mark Edeburn saw action in relief of Pellis, giving up one hit and fanning four over 2.2 innings.

Nick Hess had two doubles and three RBI, while
Chris Eisel had four hits and three stolen bases on the day.

>>The games with Slippery Rock will not count in the conference standings for either team, as the doubleheader was scheduled outside of the mandated divisional slate.
>> IUP and SRU did not play a season ago, as the pandemic forced the cancellation of the season before the start of conference play. The Crimson Hawks won the last series between these two teams in April 2019, including a split of games played in Slippery Rock.

Billy Welsh struck seven batters in just 3.1 innings of work. Seven runs were scored on him, with just two being earned.
