Crimson Hawks open PSAC West slate with weekend series against No. 17 Seton Hill

INDIANA, Pa. –  The start of divisional play has arrived for the IUP baseball team as the Crimson Hawks open with a four-game series against 17th-ranked Seton Hill this weekend. IUP will travel to Greensburg for the opening doubleheader Friday and host two games at Owen Dougherty Field on Saturday.

Both doubleheaders are scheduled for 1 p.m. starts at their respective locations. 
 
Spectators
IUP Athletics is allowing spectators at outdoor events this spring. Any fans visiting Owen J. Dougherty Field are asked to keep socially distant from each other, participating teams, student-athletes, school officials and other game day personnel. When not able to socially distant, please wear masks.

Seton Hill Athletics is allowing spectators at spring sporting events. Guidelines include wearing of masks, social distancing, and no tailgating. Please review the policy here.
 
Last Time Out
>> The Crimson Hawks dropped a pair of 9-inning home-and-home games to Cal U last weekend by scores of 18-3 and 6-5. 
>> IUP out-hit the Vulcans 21 to 20 on the weekend, but the Crimson Hawks walked 20 and committed six errors to turn the tides. 
>> Junior Drew Weglarz hit his first career homerun in the near comeback win in game two.

>> This will be the first meeting between these teams since May 2019 after losing most of last year due to the pandemic.
>> The Griffins swept the four-game series in 2019 but the Crimson Hawks took three of four from SHU in a closely contested 2018 series.
>> Seton Hill is ranked No. 17 in the NCBWA national rankings and is the only undefeated team in the PSAC at 8-0.
>> Sophomore Harrison Pontoli leads IUP with a .333 batting average, has hit safely in all eight games this year, and has three multi-hit games.
>> Senior Nick Hess is among the PSAC leaders with five doubles (out of nine hits). 
>> 5th year outfielder Chris Eisel has hit .321 (9-28) with nine runs scored, three doubles and a home run against Seton Hill over his last two full seasons (2018-19).
