LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Nickeela Austin posted two victories and hit an NCAA provisional mark as the IUP men's and women's track & field teams returned to competition and opened their outdoor season at Lock Haven's Elliston Earlybird Open on Saturday.
Austin won both the women's triple jump and long jump, while also running the second leg of the second place 4x100 relay.
Austin's triple jump of 12.15 meters was a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying distance and fell six inches short of IUP's outdoor record in the event. The conversion is 39-10.5, a personal best and second to Kim Schneider's mark of 40-04 back in 1988.
Austin had a winning long jump of 5.52m (18-01.5) and helped the 4x1 to a time of 48.70.
Other women's event winners from Saturday included
Jessica Jones in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.92 and
Ala Small in the 10,000 meters with a time of 40:55.89.
On the men's side, freshman
Trejon Turner won the high jump in his first collegiate meet, clearing a height of 1.95m (6-04.75).
