INDIANA, Pa. - For the second time in as many weeks,
IUP graduate second baseman
Kaitlyn Beers earned a postseason award as she was named second team All-Atlantic Region by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Wednesday.
Beers was also a second team National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Atlantic Region selection and a first team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division pick last week.
Beers becomes the first IUP softball player to earn two all-region nods in the same postseason since
Hannah Mercer picked up first team NFCA and second team Daktronics selections in 2015.
Beers put together arguably the best offensive season in program history this spring. She led the Crimson Hawks in nearly every major statistical category, and currently leads the PSAC West in batting average (.452), slugging percentage (.933), and on-base percentage (.513). Beers is currently 11th in Division II in slugging and 15th in home runs per game (0.38), and averaged a homer every 8.7 at-bats this season.
Beers broke IUP single season program records in batting average and slugging percentage, while her 12 homers are the second most in program history, although she played in just 32 games. She'll leave IUP as the program's home run champion with 29, a record she broke on April 19 against Millersville.
Beers had 14 multi-hit and eight multi-RBI games, and ended the season on an eight-game hit streak. She homered in six of IUP's seven divisional series, blasting four home runs in the four-game set against Pitt-Johnstown.
