INDIANA, Pa. – IUP softball graduate student Kaitlyn Beers was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® 2 First Team, which was announced by CoSIDA Thursday. It's the second straight Academic All-District® honor for Beers.
 
The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
Beers owns a 3.66 grade point average as a graduate student in criminology. She graduated last spring with a 3.80 GPA in the same program, earning her first career CoSIDA Academic All-District® honor. She's one of 11 on the NCAA Division II – District 2 squad, which includes four infielders. District 2 includes schools from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA), and the Mountain East Conference (MEC).
 
Beers, the IUP Women's Senior of the Year, earned All-Atlantic Region honors at second base by both the NFCA and D2CCA. She put together arguably the best offensive season in program history this spring, leading the Crimson Hawks in nearly every major statistical category. Beers set program records with a .452 batting average and .933 slugging percentage, while her 12 homers in 32 games is second all-time. 

She'll leave IUP as the program's home run champion with 29, a record she broke on April 19 against Millersville. 
 
Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot, with those honorees announced later this summer.
