IUP ranks among PSAC leaders in academics

INDIANA, Pa. – Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) ranked third in the State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) and fifth among Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schools in student-athlete cumulative grade point average for the 2020-21 academic year.

IUP's 17 programs and over 400 student-athletes combined for a 3.432 grade point average during the fall and spring semesters. That mark trailed only West Chester (3.456) and Slippery Rock (3.439) in the PASSHE and was behind Mercyhurst (3.494) and Gannon (3.440) in the conference. There are 13 institutions in the PASSHE system while the PSAC is made up of 18 schools.

The women's lacrosse and men's golf programs each won PSAC Team GPA Awards, posting the best cumulative grade point averages across the conference in each respective sport for 2020-21. Men's golf boasted the highest GPA of all IUP programs at 3.714, an average that also ranked 14th among 291 total teams in the PSAC.

IUP saw 15 of its programs earn cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or higher last year, with nine of those checking in higher than 3.5. For the fifth straight year, the IUP Athletic Department posted a new school record as 271 student-athletes were named PSAC Scholar-Athletes, earning a GPA of at least 3.25 this year.
