No. 8 IUP field hockey downed at No. 4 Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The eighth-ranked IUP field hockey team fell 2-0 in road action against fourth-ranked Kutztown on Saturday.
 
IUP (7-5, 2-3) conceded a goal in each half and could not break through despite a final push in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Kutztown (12-2, 4-1) picked up its sixth consecutive victory and third shutout in a row.
 
The Golden Bears doubled up the Crimson Hawks in shots, 20-10, and held a slight 13-12 edge in penalty corners.
 
Amanda Zaner stood tall early in goal for IUP with a pair of saves in the opening quarter, while IUP earned some late penalty corners. Zaner finished with six saves, playing all 60 minutes for the Crimson Hawks.
 
The Golden Bears opened the scoring in the second period with Rachel Dusman finding the net from Breann Craley. The teams traded chances for the remainder of the stanza with Kutztown taking a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
 
The Golden Bears dictated much of the possession in the third quarter before Roos van Herel ripped a chance for IUP off a penalty corner. KU doubled the lead in the opening moments off the fourth quarter on an Erin Gonzales tally. The Crimson Hawks fired five shots in the fourth quarter, including two from Paeton Hartmann.
 
Cara Betancourt and Hartmann logged a team-high three shots each for IUP.
