LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The IUP women's soccer team put three players on the all-league teams, including two on the First Team, as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) announced the 2021 postseason awards Thursday afternoon.
Hannah Scardina and
Aislinn Meaney earned All-PSAC First team honors with
Cassidy Zandier landing on the Second Team. The PSAC announced 26 all-conference honorees in each division, along with the league's major award winners.
Scardina is a two-time All-PSAC First team honoree for the Crimson Hawks, starting all 17 contests this season and leading the team in goals (9) and points (21). The Indiana, Pa. native picked up PSAC West Offensive Player of the Week honors on October 24 and was tied for second in the PSAC in goals. She posted a pair of goals in an impressive conference victory against Mercyhurst back on October 22, part of a four-game point streak for the junior forward.
Meaney was another key contributor for IUP this season, leading the team with six assists. The Ennis, Ireland native also finished second on the team this season in goals (5) and points (16). One of the quickest players in the league, Meaney scored a goal and added two assists in a victory against Pitt-Johnstown back on September 21. She finished fourth in the PSAC with both shots (59) and assists.
Zandier earns her second all-conference honor as a senior, helping anchor the Crimson Hawks defensive unit. The South Park, Pa. native started in 15 contests this season along the back line of the IUP formation. She was part of four shutout efforts for IUP on the defensive end for a unit that allowed 1.00 goals/game.
Sarah Fails (Gannon) was named the PSAC Western Division Athlete of the Year, while teammate Ella Fadale was the league's Freshman of the Year. Taryn Baxter of Mercyhurst earned Western Division Freshman of the Year honors and Gannon's Colin Peterson earned the division's Coach of the Year award.
IUP ended the season with at least one point in each of the final seven contests, just missing out on the conference tournament under the direction of first-year head coach
Noreen Herlihy.
