IUP hires Wilkes as assistant women’s soccer coach

INDIANA, Pa. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania Department of Athletics, led by athletic director Todd Garzarelli, announced the hiring of Nathaniel Wilkes as assistant coach for the IUP Crimson Hawks women's soccer program.

Wilkes will join head coach Kernell Borneo in his first season leading the Crimson Hawks.

Wilkes spent the past two seasons on Borneo's staff at Fairmont State University, helping guide the Falcons to a 29-9-3 record and a conference championship in 2025. The program also posted a 13-match unbeaten streak and ranked among the top 10 nationally in winning percentage during that span.

Fairmont State led the nation in scoring with 76 goals while allowing just 13 in Mountain East Conference play, earning the coaching staff conference Staff of the Year honors in 2025.

In addition to his collegiate experience, Wilkes has worked extensively at the club level, serving as a head coach across multiple age groups and as a club director, helping develop numerous players.

Wilkes is a graduate of Potomac State College (2013), Alderson Broaddus University (2018) and Glenville State University (2022). He has already begun his role with IUP as the team continues its spring season.

"I am excited to have Coach Nat as our assistant coach at IUP," Borneo said. "We work very well together, and our goals, vision and passion align. Nat has a good eye for talent and is a very hard worker. Most importantly, he is a genuine person who truly cares."
