YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The IUP indoor track & field team had a solid showing in its indoor opener, coming Friday at the Youngstown State Icebreaker.
IUP notched three top-10 finishes and nine Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) automatic qualifying marks. Friday's meet was held at the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS) in Youngstown with over 30 competing teams, including several DI programs.
The Hawks brought a contingent of sprinters, jumpers and field athletes with the cross country season recently wrapping up. Friday provided the chance to see many of the IUP newcomers in their first collegiate action, providing the coaching staff some tangible information on areas to continue training over the holiday break.
Hailey Dodson was fourth overall in the shotput with a PSAC qualifying standard heave of 12.80m.
Cassidy Kline nabbed seventh in the 400m with a PSAC standard of 59.62, while
Jayden Thomas finished eighth with a PSAC standard high jump bound of 1.93m.
Addison Singleton and first year Bryna Kelly hit PSAC standards in the 60 hurdles.
Noah Shannon-Hatchett was 10th overall in the 60m qualifying with a 7.14 as
Kendall Branan was just outside the top 10 in the 400m (50.26). In the jumps for the women,
Sarah Isenberg was 13th (1.55m) int he high jump with
Hannah Yeykal also registering 13th in the long jump with a PSAC qualifying mark of 5.30m.
Cahsia Page was 17th in the 60m prelims with a 7.91, later leading off the eighth-place 4x400 relay team (4:10.57). She recorded two PSAC qualifying marks, coming in the 60m and 200m. In the 60m qualifying heat,
Renee Simmonds was 17th in 10.15 and
Morgan Slebodnick posted 20th in 10.24.
Justin Egizio followed Branan in the men's 400m, posting 16th overall in 50.91.
IUP continues the indoor track season in the new year, competing in the two-day Youngstown State National Mid-Major Invitational.
