LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – IUP graduate student guard
Shawndale Jones was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Athlete of the Week for the second time in 2022-23, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Jones helped lead the second-ranked IUP Crimson Hawks to a pair of PSAC crossover victories at the KCAC, coming against Kutztown and West Chester. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native surpassed 1,000 points in his collegiate career, spanning his time at NJIT and IUP, in the second half against the Golden Rams on Monday night.
Jones averaged 21.0 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 44.3% (13-30) from the floor and 87.5% (14-16) from the foul line in two outings. He began the week with 19 points and four rebounds in a win against Kutztown.
Jones followed it up with 23 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals against the Golden Rams.
He is the leading scorer in the PSAC and only player in the league averaging 20 points or more per game. He's also first in the league and eighth nationally in free throw percentage, converting at an impressive 93.7% clip from the foul line.
Jones was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week back on November 21.
The Crimson Hawks return to game action from break on Friday, December 30 at Millersville for a 5:00 p.m.
