Crimson Hawks bounce back at home

INDIANA, Pa. – Eighth-ranked IUP field hockey opened up an early lead and held off a final push from Coker in a 4-1 bounce-back victory on Saturday at Miller Stadium.
 
IUP (4-1) netted a pair of goals over the initial 10 minutes of the contest and did not look back, despite Coker (2-2) breaking through with just over one minute remaining in the frame. Four different players figured into the goal scoring for the Crimson Hawks, with Blaise Cugini, Roos van Herel, Shelby Harnish and Jess Davidson find the cage.
 
The Crimson Hawks owned a 12-1 edge in shots through three quarters Cuguni slammed one home along the right post following a shot from Cara Betancourt for a 1-0 lead just over four minutes into the contest. IUP doubled the advantage with Paeton Hartmann finding van Herel at the 9:28 mark.
 
With time winding down in the opening quarter, Chase Lennon converted for Coker. The Crimson Hawks found the net once more before intermission with Harnish capitalizing on her own rebound chance, making it 3-1.
 
IUP made the most of an untimed penalty corner chance at the end of the third quarter, expanding the lead to 4-1. Davidson set up in the middle and deflected a shot from van Herel, swinging all the momentum in favor of the Crimson Hawks.
 
The Cobras had several scoring chances over the final quarter, including a deflcetd shot off a penalty corner from Kaiya Sabur.
 
In goal, Amanda Zaner collected two saves over 60 minutes of action. Davidson racked up seven shots with five coming on target for IUP.
