INDIANA, Pa. – Despite an edge in nearly every offensive category for IUP, a goal-scoring spurt from top-ranked Shippensburg proved to be the difference in a 3-0 setback to the Red Raiders on Saturday afternoon at Miller Stadium.
IUP (7-6, 4-4) has now gone two games without a goal despite quality chances, part of a larger stretch of three shutouts in the last four games. The Hawks held an 8-4 advantage in shots and 11-5 edge in corners over Shippensburg (13-3, 7-1) on Saturday.
Seniors
Rory Cahill and
Claire Murphy were recognized in an on-field pregame ceremony as part of Senior Day.
Shippensburg goalie Emma Albee finished with eight saves, while Lilly Cantabene provided all of Saturday's offense with a hat trick. Cantabene found the net twice in the first quarter, coming about three minutes apart before closing the scoring in the fourth.
Anita Planella had one save and Roos van Herel registered four shots, much of which came following penalty corner opportunities.
Aubree Dorsey added five shots with four on target for IUP.
Cantebene scored at 4:23 and 7:03 of the opening quarter as Shippensburg made the most of its limited opportunities. IUP countered with looks off the penalty corner following the early flurry from Cantabene, but could not solve Albee.
Shippensburg maintained its spot atop the PSAC standings, already clinching a berth in the conference tournament, while IUP finishes out the weekend tied for fourth with West Chester behind a 4-4 mark in conference play.
