Precocious Hawks close out December with tri-meet action

INDIANA, Pa. – First year standouts Summer Esson and Tyler Uhlig posted a pair of wins each, leading a youth movement for the IUP swimming & diving programs in tri-meet action on Saturday against Clarion and Frostburg State.

Getting to the unofficial midpoint of the season, the Crimson Hawks rounded out the December slate and will return to action again in mid-January. Overall, IUP posted 36 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying marks across the lineup inside Pidgeon Natatorium.

Saturday's meet was the last inside Pidgeon Natatorium until February 2024 for the Hawks.

Esson posted two of three wins on the day for the IUP women, with fellow freshman Kasha Stokes adding another victory in an outstanding opening semester to the season. Esson logged victories in the 200 IM (2:10.05) and 100 free (53.64), while Stokes added a victory in the 100 back (58.96), all PSAC standards.

Meanwhile, Uhlig was outstanding in the distance events for the Crimson Hawk men's squad, touching first in the 1,000 free (9:43.47) and 500 free (4:45.14), both PSAC qualifying marks. Stalwarts Luke Mikesell and Athanasios Diamantidis were also victorious for the IUP men, recording first-pace showings in the 200 free (1:41.63) and 100 back (56.44), respectively.

Stokes led an impressive 100 back grouping for the IUP women, which claimed the top three spots. Lilly Farmer followed in second behind Stokes with a PSAC mark of 1:00.33, while Jordan Crupie posted third overall (1:00.64) with a PSAC standard.

Avital Flaishman was impressive across the distance events for the IUP women's squad, posting a pair of second-place PSAC qualifying marks in the 1,000 free (10:42.96) and 500 free (5:14.47). Stokes joined Erin Moyer, Amber Baldani and Taylor Peoples for second in the leadoff event of the tri-meet, the 200 medley relay, with a mark of 1:49.75.

Peoples and teammate Rachel Blackburn swam to a tie in the 50 free with a 25.69, both logging PSAC marks. For the men, Diamantidis added second in the 200 IM (1:55.24), while Luke Scoboria nabbed third in the 500 free (4:50.02).
