SANDUSKY, Ohio – Competing in its second dual matchup in as many days, IUP women's tennis fell short in a 4-3 setback against Wayne State on Sunday afternoon in Ohio.
IUP (1-3) secured the doubles point, taking two of the three matchups, including a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles.
Natalie Kmoskova and
Joanna Stralka posted a 6-3 triumph at No. 2 doubles, while
Idoia Huerta and
Lydia Vlachou preserved for a 7-6 (7-5) victory at the No. 3 spot.
The sides were evenly contested in singles competition, with IUP posting two victories. Kmoskova opened the singles action with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Wayne State's Marta Komar at the No. 2 spot.
From there,
Katy Graydon fell short at No. 4 singles to Martyna Szpakowska.
Karolin Kirchtag also battled at No. 1 singles, falling short to Anais Ruyssen in set scores of 6-3, 6-4.
Stralka provided an important victory at No. 3 singles, handling Malak Arafat by a 6-4, 6-3 count. Wayne State's (6-0) Sabrina Laynes worked things back even with a dramatic matchup against
Laura Dunarova at No. 6 singles.
Vlachou nearly completed the comeback in the second set after falling 6-3, coming up just short against Shanice Weekes with a 7-5 count.
