INDIANA, Pa. -- IUP Athletics and the athletic communications office are seeking hard-working and talented students to join the department for the 2023-24 school year and beyond.
Student assistants play a vital role in the day-to-day operation and behind the scenes work within the athletic communications office. See below for more information and application instructions:
Position Summary & Description
A student assistant in the IUP sports information office will be responsible for a multitude of aspects related to athletic communication. These duties can include, but are not limited to: social media marketing for team accounts, graphic design, game program design, collection of in-game statistics, scoreboard operation, writing, marketing, videography, photography, photo management and other tasks as assigned by the sports information director.
Student assistants can and will work directly with IUP administration, staff, coaches and student-athletes, and are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate and professional manner at all times.
All student assistants are expected to contribute 2-4 office hours per week, and be available to work sporting events on nights and weekends, as needed. Historically, student assistants have averaged anywhere between 5-20 hours per week, dependent on schedules.
Position Qualifications
> Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in sports administration, communications, marketing, or related field
> Must have an interest in sports; Playing experience is a plus, but not required
> Experience with Microsoft Office
> Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro) a plus
> Must show a willingness to learn and demonstrate professionalism
> Dependability to work at home athletic contests as needed
> Availability to work over semester and university breaks preferred
Essential Functions
Students can gain hands-on and practical experience within the areas of athletic communications (writing, statistics, operations), photography, graphic design, social media management and more.
> Assist with marketing and promotions of IUP varsity sports
> Assist with stating of games
> Assist with social media efforts, specifically in-game tweeting for team accounts
> Assist with graphic design (gameday graphics, etc.)
> Assist with creation of game programs
> Assist with game day management
> Assist with writing of game previews, recaps and other relevant content for IUPAthletics.com
> Assist with live sports photography and creation of photo galleries
> Assist with photo database management
> Assist with creation and execution of game highlights and other video projects
> Assist with pregame and postgame interviews with coaches and student-athletes as needed
> Assist with updating historical information/record books
