LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – IUP men's basketball senior forward
Ethan Porterfield was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Defensive Athlete of the Week, announced by the league on Monday afternoon.
Porterfield had a strong all-around week for the Crimson Hawks on both sides of the floor, helping the team to a pair of divisional victories against Seton Hill (81-73) and Slippery Rock (77-64). Porterfield averaged a double-double of 16.5 points and 10.5 rebounds over two games, adding four blocks and shooting 48.1% from the floor.
The Sharon, Pa. native was approaching a rare triple-double last Wednesday at Seton Hill, finishing with 19 points, 10 rebounds (eight defensive), eight assists, one block and one steal on January 24. He followed it up with 14 points, 11 rebounds (nine defensive), three blocks against Slippery Rock.
Porterfield finished 50% (5-10) from behind the arc, also moving to sixth on the IUP all-time scoring list with 1,645 points. He also collected his 18th career game with three blocks or more and his first of the 2023-24 season against Slippery Rock.
Monday's honor is the second weekly award from the PSAC this season for Porterfield, who was named the league's Co-Athlete of the Week on December 4. Entering the week, Porterfield ranks 11th in the PSAC in scoring average (17.1), third in rebounding average (8.9), 13th in assists/game (3.1), 10th in blocks (16), fifth in assist/turnover ratio (+1.93) and first in double-doubles (8).
IUP hosts No. 17/13 California (Pa.) on Monday (January 29) at the KCAC for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff before rounding out the week at Clarion (January 31).
