SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- In the final minute of play, IUP secured their second goal of the night, sealing the victory over Slippery Rock on Tuesday evening.
Both teams were searching for their first conference win, and IUP fortunately broke their five-game drought with this victory. IUP (2-5, 1-1 PSAC) faced off against Slippery Rock (2-5, 0-2 PSAC), with both teams pushing hard until the final moments.
IUP struggled to get their offense going in the first quarter, failing to record any shots and allowing Slippery Rock to score late in the period. During the second quarter, IUP started to take control but it wasn't until the third and fourth quarter that they took off. In the second half, IUP combined for nine shots, limiting SRU to one.
Jess Davidson scored first for the Hawks at 31:15 off a corner into the left of the goal that was set up by Aubree Dorsey. The last shot of the day came from Cassie Romanczuk, her sixth of the season, assisted by Devon Johnson at 57:30.
In goal,
Anita Planella and
Brooke Eberly both appeared for 30 minutes, both recording one save. IUP registered eight penalty corners and Slippery Rock had two.
