KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- IUP field hockey fell short after a double overtime match, leading to a penalty shootout against No.2 Kutztown at Andre Reed Stadium this evening.
After 80 minutes of play, the score remained 0-0, prompting IUP (2-6, 1-2 PSAC) and Kutztown (8-1, 2-0 PSAC) to head into a shootout.
Juliana Donato scored first for Kutztown, followed by a response from IUP's
Mia Gerick. Donato then secured the game-winning goal, resulting in a 2-1 shootout victory for Kutztown, walking away with the long awaited 1-0 victory.
In regulation, IUP managed just four shots, but ramped up their efforts with seven shots in overtime. IUP goalkeeper
Anita Planella played the full 80 minutes, making 10 saves.
Throughout the match, Kutztown held the offensive edge with 16 total shots, 10 of which were on goal. IUP's defense held strong, forcing the shootout.
