INDIANA, Pa. -- IUP's (5-7, 4-3) offense struggled to find its rhythm early on but managed to score in double overtime to defeat West Chester (8-5, 2-3) 2-1, Saturday night at Miller Stadium. This win marked the third time in program history that IUP defeated West Chester.
IUP's offense had a slow start after managing just four shots in the first half compared to West Chester's 15, including a significant 10 in the first quarter.
Both goals in the match were scored during the first quarter. West Chester's Jasmine Miller opened the scoring at 11:05, followed by
Lilly Fringer equalizing at 13:47 marking her fourth goal of the season.
The rest of the game featured a competitive back-and-forth, with West Chester maintaining a slight edge. Both defenses put forth strong efforts, leading to double overtime.
In the first overtime, IUP recorded four shots, but none were on target. With five minutes remaining in the second overtime (75:22),
Jess Davidson capitalized on a one-player advantage, racing down the field to net the game-winning goal for IUP.
IUP goalkeeper Anite Planella played the full match, making eight saves for the Crimson Hawks.
Cassie Romanczuk led the team with five shots, two of which were on target, while
Jess Davidson followed closely with four shots, three on goal.
Lilly Fringer and
Julia Barto each contributed one shot.
