INDIANA, Pa. – IUP (5-8, 4-4) was unable to get through Mansfield's (10-5, 4-2) strong defense Wednesday evening at Miller Stadium, falling short 2-1.
Throughout the contest, both teams displayed great field usage. IUP's offense only took three shots in the first half whereas Mansfield took four with one being a goal at 20:34. Mansfield claimed their second goal halfway through the third quarter at 36:22.
IUP's offense controlled the third quarter after posting a total of seven shots and eventually found the net from their final shot attempt.
Devon Johnson found the net at 43:11 with a shot that slipped past the Mansfield goalie, putting IUP on the scoreboard.
In the final stretch, IUP attempted three more shots but couldn't capitalize, finishing the game with a total of 13 shots, eight of which were on goal, while Mansfield recorded seven shots with five on target. IUP made three saves compared to Mansfield's seven.
Jess Davidson had a team high of six shots with three on goal, followed by
Lilly Fringer with three attempts,
Devon Johnson with two, and both
Nia Mountis and Cassie Romanczek each had one. IUP saw two goalies tonight as
Anita Planella started for the Hawks and recorded two saves until
Brooke Eberly relieved her with roughly 25 minutes to play, recording one save herself.
