LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – IUP women's basketball sophomore forward
Nyshae' Weaver was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Weaver averaged a double-double in two divisional wins last week for the Crimson Hawks, stepping into the starting lineup. She posted 10.0 points, 15.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals while shooting 61.5% from the field.
Weaver averaged just shy of 35 minutes for the Hawks last week, posting a 69-63 home victory against UPJ on February 14 before escaping with a 55-53 triumph at Edinboro on February 17. The Baltimore, Md. native posted a pair of double-doubles last week for IUP, now with seven on the season and three straight.
She set a career high (AB/IUP) with 28 points and 13 rebounds in a hard-earned win against Pitt-Johnstown. She played over 38 minutes in that game, shooting 85.7% from the floor (12-14), adding three steals, two assists and one block.
Weaver followed it up with 10 points, 18 rebounds and two assists at Edinboro last weekend. The leading rebounder in the conference (9.6/game), Weaver is 23 rebounds shy of cracking the IUP single season record book with 211 boards. The program record for rebounds in a season is 328, held by Sherri Leysock.
Her 9.6 rebounds/game would rank tied for ninth in single season program history, matching IUP great Jahzinga Tracey (2006-07).
