LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – IUP women's basketball sophomore forward
Nyshae' Weaver was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Women's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week, announced by the league Monday.
Weaver collects her second weekly honor from the conference, previously earning PSAC West Athlete of the Week honors on February 19. IUP has had a student-athlete recognized by the conference for three straight weeks.
Weaver put up a whopping 13.5 points/game and 14.5 rebounds/game over two contests last week for the Crimson Hawks. Shooting 54.5% (6-11) from the floor, Weaver went to the foul line 21 times last week.
Leading the league with nearly 10 rebounds/game, Weaver ranks third in the league with nine double-doubles in 2023-24. Shooting 59.0% from the field this season, she ranks tied for second in program history for a single season (min. 125 attempts) with Beth McDonald.
Weaver racked up two more double-doubles for IUP last week. The Baltimore, Md. Native recorded 13 points and 12 rebounds (nine defensive) in 34 minutes at California (Pa.) on February 28. She followed it up with 14 points (10-13 FT) and a staggering 17 rebounds (11 defensive) in just 27 minutes as part of a resounding victory against Clarion in the team's regular season finale on March 2.
Her 257 total rebounds currently rank 11th in program history for a single season. Meanwhile, her average of 9.9 rebounds/game ranks ninth in program history for a single season.
IUP returns to action on Wednesday, March 6 for the PSAC Quarterfinals. The Crimson Hawks host the winner of the Seton Hill/California (Pa.) matchup on Monday.
Tipoff for the PSAC Quarterfinals is set for 6:00 p.m.
