INDIANA, Pa. – IUP first year pitcher
Kendall Young was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Young picks up her second career weekly honor from the league, previously named the division's Pitcher of the Week on March 18. The St. Mary's, Pa. native pitched a whopping 28 innings over six total games in a busy stretch last week for the Crimson Hawks.
She went 4-2 in that stretch, tossing three complete games and a no-hitter (five innings) against Pitt-Johnstown on April 26. Entering to finish the halted game against California (Pa.) on April 24, Young finished the regular season with 15 consecutive scoreless innings.
She recorded the first no-hitter of her collegiate career in a 16-0 run-rule victory for the Crimson Hawks against the Mountain Cats, posting eight strikeouts in the lockdown effort. Young fired a combined 27 strikeouts over her six pitching appearances last week.
Young concluded the regular season on a high note, outdueling Seton Hill starter Lauren Dellett on April 27 with a complete game shutout. She scattered four hits in that 1-0 victory against Seton Hill last weekend at Podbielski Field, helping the Crimson Hawks secure the fifth and final spot in western division of the PSAC Tournament.
This season, Young boasts a 14-9 record and a 2.95 ERA in her debut collegiate season. She is tied for the league lead with five shutouts this season, surpassing 100 strikeouts on the season against the Griffins.
IUP begins the 2024 PSAC Softball Tournament on Wednesday, May 1 against Shippensburg.
