NEWS/NOTES
>> IUP was the final team from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West remaining in the conference tournament. The Hawks finished third in the conference tournament, helping ensure at at-large bid to the NCAAs.
>> This is the first NCAA Super Regional in program history for IUP.
>> Entering the season 36-15, IUP has matched the program's single-season wins set in 2008. IUP can set a new single-season wins record with a victory over the weekend.
>> Ricardo Aponte has proven to be clutch at the plate down the stretch run of the season and into the playoffs for the Hawks. He smacked a home run in the 10th inning of a 2-1 victory against Charleston that pushed IUP to the NCAA Super Regionals.
>> The IUP pitching staff was strong over the three games in the NCAA Atlantic Regionals, allowing a combined four runs over the last two games. Mark Edeburn is expected to start the series for IUP with Derrick Shields and Jake Black following on the mound on Saturday.
As a picthing staff, IUP leads NCAA DII with 12 complete games this season.
>> The Crimson Hawks took three of four games during the regular season against Seton Hill.
>> Despite a strong season that resulted in an NCAA Tournament berth, IUP was not very well represented on the All-PSAC teams with just a pair of second team honorees in Harrison Pontoli and Aponte.
>> IUP went 2-35 in 2021 before posting a 27-22 mark in 2022, an improvement of 25 victories year over year. From there, the Hawks clinched a berth in the PSAC Tournament in consecutive seasons in 2023 and 2024. It was the first time in over a decade (2010-11) that IUP has made consecutive conference tournament appearances.
>> Aponte leads the team with a .333 average with Brady Yard batting .322 in the IUP lineup.
