LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – IUP women's track & field standout
Kaylla Williams has been named the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year, announced by the league Thursday.
Williams becomes the first female IUP women's track & field student-athlete to earn Freshman of the Year honors in program history. She is also the first major award winner for the program since 2017 (Lizzy Cunningham).
The Harrisburg, Pa. native became the first female national qualifier for the Crimson Hawks since Cunningham in 2017. Williams set an NCAA DII Provisional mark and school record in the javelin with a heave of 46.62m (152' 11") in April at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
That mark landed Williams USTFCCA All-Region honors (top five in region) and qualified her for the 2024 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships last May in Kansas. She notched 19th place in the national meet.
Williams also logged second at Shippensburg's Paul Kaiser Classic on April 27.
