INDIANA, Pa. – IUP men's basketball standout
Ethan Porterfield recently signed a contract to play professional basketball overseas with Randers Cimbria in Denmark.
One of the top student-athletes to compete at IUP across any sport, Porterfield was officially announced as the newest signee on Randers' social media account earlier this week. The Sharon, Pa. native becomes the latest former IUP men's basketball player to continue their playing career overseas.
"We're very thankful when guys get an opportunity to leave (IUP) with a degree and some success but also the chance to pursue their dream of playing after college," IUP head coach
Joe Lombardi said. "Ethan is a talented young man certainly deserving of this opportunity."
A three-time all-conference selection, Porterfield capped a storied IUP career with 112 victories and appeared in the 2024 NABC DII Reese's All-Star Game. He won three conference titles, also part of an Atlantic Region championship and appearance in the NCAA DII Final Four in 2021-22.
"It's not just about basketball or making some money, but it's more about the life experiences and growth," Lombardi continued. "I've been very impressed with Ethan's growth since he started at IUP five years ago. I look forward to him growing as a young man and in his faith also."
Individually, Porterfield closed his IUP career second in program history in scoring (1,934), first in field goals made (723), fifth in three-point field goals (236), third in rebounding (885), second in blocks (165) and tied for third in career games (130).
Porterfield begins his professional career with Randers this September.
