NEWVILLE, Pa. – The IUP men's and women's swimming program finished the weekend with a pair of invitationals on Saturday at Big Spring HS Natatorium.
Playing "host" to the Pidgeon Memorial Invitational and the PSAC Last Chance Invitational, Saturday served as a final chance for the swimming teams to tune up ahead of the league championships.
In both meets today, the women's side finished third out of four teams and the men's side finished first out of two teams. East Stroudsburg, Kutztown, and Lock Haven joined IUP on the women's side while Kutztown accompanied the men.
Overall, IUP combined for 23 PSAC qualifying marks, 26 victories, and four pool records across the two invitationals.
IUP began the day by taking first in the women's and men's 400 medley relay.
Kasha Stokes,
Tina Cudina,
Katie Crosscut, and
Lucy Vogt swam at 4:03.18. The men's relay grabbed first and second place,
Alexander Roth,
Julien Dampenon,
Luke Ramalho, and
Nicholas Vaow led the way with 3:37.02.
Tina Cudina placed first with a PSAC standard in the 200 IM (2:16.13) that was followed by
Luke Mikesell's own first place finish and PSAC mark (2:00.64) also in the 200 IM. IUP continued strong with a PSAC standard in the men's 500 free,
Stephen Goff swam a 4:53.93.
Catrina Miller placed first in 100 backstroke (1:09.57) with a PSAC standard. IUP added two more victories in the 200 butterfly,
Gem Crittenden (2:07.09) and
Luke Mikesell (1:55.19), each with PSAC qualifying marks. IUP rounded out the first meet with wins in the 50 free and 400 free relay.
Included in the pool records were
Tyler Uhlig in the 100 back (51.04), the women's 200 free relay (1:39.48), and both the women's (1:53.46) and men's (1:40.16) 200 medley relay.
In the second meet of the day, IUP began again with two victories in the 200 free relay, which included a women's pool record. IUP continued with 11 consecutive first place finishes that included eight PSAC marks. IUP finished the day with two more wins and pool records in the 200-medley relay.
