INDIANA, Pa. — IUP put together a dominant performance to shut out Slippery Rock, 5–0, Wednesday night at Miller Stadium in nonconference field hockey action.
IUP (4-3, 1-1) opened the scoring in the second quarter when Mia Gerick scored at the 16:30 mark. Grace McGeehan added a second goal at 27:45, assisted by Jess Davidson.
Early in the third quarter, Abigail Benner extended the lead with a goal unassisted and another off an assist from Hayven Mumma. In the fourth quarter, Maura van de Plas, assisted by Davidson, made it 4–0. Jess Davidson capped the scoring at 51:16 with the fifth goal.
The Hawks outshot the visitors 20–3 (15 on goal), controlling play throughout. Slippery Rock's goalkeeper made 10 saves, while IUP's Celeste Pagliaroli recorded the shutout with two saves.
Slippery Rock (3-5, 0-2) got a yellow card on Lucy Hutchinson in the 9:34 mark. IUP's Lilly Fringer received green cards at 11:47 and 42:45.
IUP returns to PSAC play next as the conference schedule resumes on Saturday at Millersville.
