MANSFIELD, Pa. – Jess Davidson scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the Indiana University of Pennsylvania field hockey team earned a 2-1 victory over Mansfield on Wednesday afternoon at Karl Van Norman Stadium.
The win moves IUP to 5-5 overall and -3 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play, while Mansfield drops to 5-8 and 1-4.
After a scoreless first half, IUP broke through in the third quarter when Hayven Mumma scored off a rebound at the 43:26 mark to give the Crimson Hawks a 1-0 lead. Mansfield answered just over a minute later, as Ella du Plessis converted a rebound to tie the game at 1-1.
Neither team could find the back of the cage in the rest of regulation, forcing overtime. In overtime, Davidson delivered the deciding goal at 61:46, assisted by Lilly Fringer off a penalty corner insert.
IUP held an 11-7 advantage in total shots and earned 11 penalty corners compared to Mansfield's five. Goalkeeper Celeste Pagliaroli made five saves for the Crimson Hawks, while Lydia Miller recorded three stops for Mansfield.
Davidson's game-winner marked her seventh goal of the season, while Mumma's tally was her third.
IUP will return to action this weekend as conference play continues against East Stroudsburg on Saturday at Miller Stadium.
