NOTEBOOK

KEEP SLINGING IT
Backing up his five-touchdown performance against Lock Haven, Matthew Rueve set the IUP single-game record for touchdown passes with six against Millersville. Rueve played one series into the second half. Even with the record, Rueve only tied his career-high in touchdown passes in a game, as he also had six against Kentucky Wesleyan on Oct. 5, 2024, while with Findlay. He also threw six scoring passes in the first half of that game.

BIG TIME PLAYERS MAKE BIG TIME PLAYS
Maurice Massey set his career high for touchdown catches in a game, catching four of Rueve's six passes for scores. Massey's previous high was three against Gannon on Nov. 2, 2024, in Erie. He also set a career-high for his longest reception, but his 173 yards receiving was not a career-high, as he had 181 in his three-touchdown game against Gannon.

ALL HE DOES IS CATCH TOUCHDOWNS
Jeremiah Coleman has emerged as a solid receiving option for Matthew Rueve, having caught nine passes in three games, including four touchdowns. He had a career-high 123 receiving yards against Millersville, breaking a catch and run for a season-high 66 yards.

SPLASH PLAYS A PLENTY
There has been no shortage of splash plays by the IUP offense and special teams, as 11 of IUP's scoring plays have gone for at least 20 yards. The lone special team's touchdown, a punt return by Kalen Frazier, went for 60 yards against Lock Haven. It was the first punt return touchdown for IUP since 2014.

WE AREN'T JUST ALL OFFENSE
The offense may be getting a lot of the headlines, but the Crimson Hawk defense has been no slouch as well. IUP ranks second in the PSAC in total defense, surrendering only 15.0 PPG. With 12 sacks, IUP ranks fifth in the PSAC in getting to the quarterback. These defensive splash plays have accumulated a negative 88 yards for the opponents.

THREE-GAME RECORD
Matthew Rueve has thrown for 15 touchdown passes over the Crimson Hawks' last three games. This performance broke the previous record of 13 touchdown passes in a three-game span set by Brian Eyerman, who did this with a 4-5-4 stretch against Catawba, New Haven, and Millersville in 2002.

LEADING THE COUNTRY
Rueve leads the entire NCAA, no matter the division, with a 220.0 passer rating. The next closest in Division II is Preston Brown from Catawba with a 188.4 passer rating. The highest in Division I is Carlos Del Rio-Wilson from Marshall, who has recorded a 206.5 passer rating.

IT'S IN THE GENES
IUP Transfer quarterback Matthew Rueve has a long line of quarterbacks in his bloodline, most notably his cousin, former NFL quarterback Matthew Hasselbeck. Rueve followed in his uncle's footsteps to Boston College to start his collegiate career after being a three-star recruit and the No. 1 pro-style passing prospect in the Ohio Class of 2020. Rueve's cousin
and Matt's son, Henry Hasselbeck, is a quarterback on the UCLA roster. Rueve spent last season at the University of Findlay and was named second-team all-conference while passing for 2,646 yards and 26 touchdowns in his lone season as an Oiler.

FAMILIAR FACES
IUP offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr. recruited Rueve to start his collegiate career at Boston College. The quarterback spent two seasons in Cignetti's offense before Junior moved on to take the OC job at the University of Pittsburgh. The duo will look to cook up some magic on the field named after Cignetti's father and IUP great, Frank Cignetti Sr.

THE STANDARD IS THE STANDARD
IUP has made three appearances in the NCAA Regionals under head coach Tortorella. However, the Crimson Hawks have not made an appearance there since the team's most recent PSAC Championship in 2022. IUP will look to end the longest NCAA Playoff drought under the current regime.

IF YOU'RE READING THIS, IT'S TOO LATE
IUP redshirt sophomore wide receiver Devin Whitlock caught a career-high seven passes for 150 yards Nand a touchdown against Lock Haven. He also led the Crimson Hawks with 130 receiving yards agaisnt Seton Hill on Sept. 27Whitlock is no newcomer to big numbers, as the Pitt transfer was part of one of the WPIAL's best tandems at Belle Vernon Area High School, where he and Quinton Martin, now at Penn State, took he league by storm on their way to a WPIAL Championship.

A LONG-STANDING TRADITION
This will be the 92nd meeting between the Crimson Hawks and the Fighting Scots, one of the oldest matchups in the PSAC. The first matchup was in 1926, with IUP winning 62 of the previous games.
Edinboro defeated IUP in the most recent meeting in 2024, with a 13-yard pass with eight seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Fighting Scots the victory.

FIVE-STRAIGHT
This is IUP's final game in a stretch of five consecutive weeks. The team will have a bye next week before traveling to take on Slippery Rock on the road and then participating in the 16th annual Coal Bowl against Cal (PA) at Miller Stadium.
