EDINBORO, Pa. — The IUP cross country teams traveled north for the PSAC Championships on Saturday, with the men placing sixth and the women finishing 13th.
Senior Mike Formica made history by becoming IUP's first men's cross country champion. Formica completed the course in 24 minutes, 39 seconds, edging Shippensburg's Garrett Quinan — the two-time defending PSAC champion — by one second and setting a course record.
Formica was also named the meet's outstanding runner, earning the same honor at last spring's outdoor track and field championships.
The win marks Formica's fourth victory of the season, adding to first-place finishes at the Paul Short Invitational, Lock Haven — where he set the IUP program record — and the Doug Watts Invitational.
Stella Kuntz was the top finisher for the IUP women, placing 46th.
