INDIANA, Pa. — The IUP men's basketball team added a new face to its coaching staff this season, as head coach Joe Lombardi welcomed Alex Cawsey as a volunteer graduate assistant for the 2025-26 season.
Cawsey, a native of Ajax, Ontario, Canada, joined the Crimson Hawks after spending time at North Idaho College. He studied sports management at Brock University and Creighton University and has contributed to player development and day-to-day team operations.
Prior to arriving at IUP, Cawsey coached on the Canadian AAU circuit and at an academy in Whitby, Ontario.
"We are fortunate to have added Alex to our staff as a volunteer graduate assistant coach," Lombardi said. "He is doing a great job with player development, and his passion for the game has a positive influence on our players. Our program prioritizes growing young men off the court, and Alex's character is making a strong impact in that area as well."
Cawsey has been on the sideline for IUP's 5-1 start to the season, including the Crimson Hawks' first PSAC victory against Kutztown. The five wins in six games mark IUP's best start through six games since opening the 2022-23 season 6-0.
