PREVIEW: IUP men's basketball looking to start PSAC play with win


KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The IUP men's basketball team will enter Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play with a 4-1 record and a two-game winning streak. The Crimson Hawks will look to make an impact in PSAC play and return to championship form in 2025.

Kutztown at a glance
Kutztown enters the matchup with a 2-1 record after three games. The Golden Bears have won both of their home games, scoring a season-high 117 points in their opener against Penn State Schuylkill. The team has averaged 68 points in its other two games.

Three Kutztown players are averaging double-digit points, including Jalen Bryant, who is scoring 20.3 points per game through three games. Bryant is second on the team in minutes, playing 30 per game. Team leader Jordan Nkoa Abessolo is averaging more than 32 minutes, with 15 points and 12.7 rebounds per game.

All five of Kutztown's starters are averaging at least 23 minutes per game. Two reserves are playing 16.7 minutes per game, including Yahmir Satterfield, the third Bear averaging double-digit points.

Tom York, in his first season as head coach and sixth year on the Kutztown staff, was hired in August 2025.

Previous matchups
IUP has won 22 of 29 games against Kutztown, averaging nearly 80 points per game since 1984. The Crimson Hawks have won the last six meetings, including an 86-73 win in December 2021 at Kutztown.

IUP has won nine of the last 10 games against the Golden Bears. With a victory, the Crimson Hawks would tie the program's longest win streak against Kutztown, seven, from 1992-2001.
