INDIANA, Pa. – Former IUP WR assistant coach Nick Sirianni won Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22, to engrave his name into NFL history.
Sirianni in his fourth year as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles appeared in his second Super Bowl, after he made his first appearance as head coach in 2022 also against the Chiefs. Sirianni became the first NFL head coach to win a Super Bowl that has previously coached at IUP.
Sirianni was a member of the IUP coaching staff as the wide receivers coach from 2006-08. In his three years as an assistant coach, IUP won one of its nineteen official PSAC championships and appeared in the DII playoffs.
A standout player that Sirianni coached during his time at IUP was All-PSAC West receiver Ken Witter. In his two seasons that Sirianni coached and Witter coincided, Witter recorded 133 receptions, 1,550 yards, and 16 touchdowns.
Sirianni isn't the only member of the Eagles' organization that have roots that come back to IUP. Defensive quality control coach Tyler Scudder was part of IUP's staff as a cornerbacks coach and an assistant recruiting coordinator from 2009-12. Also, the senior director of scouting for the Philadelphia Eagles organization, Brandon Hunt, was a graduate assistant for the football program in 2004 and a four-year starter at center and guard from 2000-03.
