IUP women's basketball earns at-large bid to NCAA DII Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – The IUP women's basketball team earned the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic Region, part of the 64-team field for the 2025 NCAA Division II Championship announced Sunday night.
 
This marks the 17th all-time NCAA Tournament appearance and second for third-year head coach Craig Carey, who led the Hawks to a 21-7 mark. 
 
Edinboro was named the top seed in the region after posting a 24-6 overall record and were named the PSAC Tournament runner-ups. The Fighting Scots will serve as the host site for the Atlantic Region Tournament inside the McCombs Fieldhouse.
 
The opening round of the NCAA DII Tournament is set for Friday, March 14. The semifinals take place the next day on Saturday, March 15, ahead of the regional championship on Monday, March 17. The winner of the eight-team regional will advance to the Elite 8 at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pa.
 
IUP opens the NCAA Tournament against No. 5 seed Fairmont State on Friday, March 14 at 7:30 p.m.
 
Other first round matchups Virginia State (8) / Edinboro (1), Gannon (2) / Fayetteville State (7), and Seton Hill (3) / Kutztown (6).
 
The Crimson Hawks won regional titles in 2018 and 2019, earning the No. 1 seed in the 2020 tournament. Last season IUP was the No. 6 seed and fell to No. 3 Fayetteville State in the first round, 72-63. 
 
IUP awaited the selection show after a loss to Edinboro, 66-64, in the PSAC Quarterfinals last Wednesday.

For each game, 150 seats directly behind each team's bench will be reserved exclusively for that school's fans. These seats will be reallocated following each game, and fans will be required to relocate to ensure that the fans of the next game have an equal opportunity to enjoy the same seating arrangement. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this process.
