PREVIEW: IUP Football Hosts Millersville in Week Three Battle

INDIANA, Pa. – Indiana University of Pennsylvania was firing on all cylinders in its win over Lock Haven and will look to carry that momentum into this week's matchup against Millersville.

The Crimson Hawks have won five straight games against the Marauders, who will make their first trip to Indiana since 2018.

The series between the two programs began in 1988. IUP defeated Millersville 42-14 in their most recent meeting on Sept. 21, 2024, on the road. Overall, IUP holds a 15–5 advantage in the series and has won 10 of 13 games played at George P. Miller Stadium.

Last week, IUP racked up more than 400 yards of total offense and forced Lock Haven to punt seven times. One of those punts was returned 60 yards for a touchdown by Kalen Frazier — IUP's first punt return touchdown since 2014.

Game Notebook

Keep Slinging It
Graduate quarterback Matthew Rueve threw five touchdown passes last week — one shy of his career high of six, set Oct. 5, 2024, against Kentucky Wesleyan. Rueve has six passing touchdowns through two games this season. He threw a career-best 26 touchdowns last season at Findlay.

If You're Reading This, It's Too Late
Redshirt sophomore Devin Whitlock had a breakout game with 150 receiving yards and a touchdown. The Pitt transfer previously starred at Belle Vernon Area High School alongside Penn State's Quinton Martin, helping the team to a WPIAL championship.

Everyone Catches a Touchdown
IUP has thrown seven touchdown passes this season to six different receivers. Jeremiah Coleman had his first multi-touchdown game against Lock Haven. Massey and Clark are the only receivers with previous touchdowns. Four of the seven passing scores this year have gone for more than 30 yards.

Like Riding a Bike
Offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr. and Rueve have reunited for the first time since 2020. Cignetti originally recruited Rueve to Boston College after the quarterback was named the top pro-style passer in Ohio. Rueve began his career at football powerhouse St. Xavier in Cincinnati.

Special Teams Shine
Special teams played a major role last week. Kalen Frazier's 60-yard punt return marked IUP's first punt return touchdown in over a decade. Kicker Nick Andraisi went 6-for-6 on PATs and had two touchbacks, averaging 61.5 yards per kickoff. Senior punter Aiden Spitler punted twice for 74 total yards, including one inside the 20.

PSAC West Offensive Player of the Week
Rueve was named PSAC West Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Lock Haven. He completed 24 of 32 passes for 365 yards and five touchdowns while connecting with 11 different receivers.

Righting the Ship
IUP has dominated the series with Millersville, winning 15 of 20 games, including the last eight dating back to 2007. The largest margin came in 2008 (63–3), while the smallest was a 26–21 win in 1999. IUP has scored 667 total points in the series, averaging 33.4 per game.

Beware the Double Team
Senior wideout Maurice Massey caught his first touchdown of the season last week. After being double-teamed in the first two games, Massey's scoring play could open up the field for the rest of the offense. With Whitlock emerging as a deep threat, opposing defenses will have to pick their poison.

This One's for the Defense
IUP's defense ranks No. 2 in the PSAC, allowing just 11.5 points per game. The Crimson Hawks have given up only three touchdowns and one field goal through two games. Millersville ranks No. 6 in the PSAC in scoring (31.0 PPG). The Marauders lost to Glenville State — a team that Lock Haven defeated. IUP beat Lock Haven 42–10 in Week 2.
