INDIANA, Pa. – The 2025 IUP Crimson Hawk Field Hockey season started out with a bang as the home team shut out the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey in the team's opener, 3-0.
Lilly Fringer scored the first goal of the season for IUP, while
Maura van de Plas earned the first goal of her IUP career.
Jess Davidson earned the assist on the van de Plas goal, shooting the ball for the tip-in, and added one of her own later in the game.
The Hawks out shot the Crusaders 13-3, with nine of the IUP shots getting on goal. Crimson Hawk keeper
Celeste Pagliaroli had to make just one save in the match.
Grace McGeehan led IUP with four shots, all of which reached the goal.
The Hawk kept the pressure on the Crusaders, forcing ten penalty corners, compared to just one for Belmont Abbey.
Sydney Schmouder took all the corners for the Hawks.
IUP will return to action on Sept. 10 as they will travel to Buffalo to take on D'Youville. The game will begin at 4 PM.
