Volleyball Opens Season With Two-Match Split

ASHLAND, Ohio – IUP women's volleyball opened its season with a split of two games in the Ashland Eagles tournament, defeating Daemen in three sets and losing to host Ashland in five sets.
 
GAME ONE
After dropping the first set, the Crimson Hawks swept the final three sets to defeat Daemen in their first match of the season.
 
Jessica Neiman led the way for the Crimson Hawks in game one, recording a match-high 17 kills. Overall, the Hawks had 43 kills as a team, edging Daemen by just one. IUP also had 14 blocks in the game, led by Charlotte Potvin, who had a game-high seven rejections. Ellie Rauch had 30 of IUP's 38 assists in the match.
 
The win secured IUP Head Coach Avery Moore's first win as a Crimson Hawk.
 
GAME TWO
 
The Hawks came back for a nightcap against the Ashland Eagles in game two of the day. Ashland took the first set, followed by two IUP wins, only for the Eagles to win the final two sets. Neiman matches her total kills from game one with 17, giving her 34 kills on the day. She also had five blocks in game two.
 
Rauch recorded 29 assists while also securing 12 digs. The Hawks had four players with double-digit digs in the match, led by Brooke Kessler with 17. Delaney Concannon led the way with two solo blocks.
 
The Crimson Hawks will return to court on Saturday, taking Ursuline at 11 AM and West Liberty at 3 PM.
