No. 9 IUP falls in double overtime at No. 4 Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Freshman goalkeeper Kaelin Koehler made 13 saves over 80 minutes as No. 9 IUP battled No. 4 Shippensburg into double overtime Wednesday at Robb Sports Complex, ultimately falling 2-1 in a nonconference regional matchup.

Shippensburg finished with a 32-10 advantage in shots, placing 15 attempts on cage. IUP put four of its 10 shots on target as the Crimson Hawks remained within striking distance throughout the afternoon.

Kasey Rieger provided the offense for IUP, coming off the bench for the first time this season and scoring her team-leading ninth goal of the year.

Lauren Horning, who replaced Rieger in the starting lineup, paced the Crimson Hawks with four shots, putting two on cage. Rieger added three attempts, while Grace McGeehan was the only other IUP player with multiple shots, recording two with one on target.

Koehler kept the Crimson Hawks in the game against a persistent Shippensburg attack, turning away 13 of the 15 shots she faced.

For Shippensburg, Liv Schweighart made three saves on IUP's four shots on goal. The Caracotche Picone sisters combined for nine shots, with five reaching the cage, while Elaina Fragassi recorded a game-high eight attempts.

The Crimson Hawks will remain on the road this weekend for another top-10 matchup, traveling to face No. 5 Bloomsburg in PSAC play Saturday.

Game time is set for noon.
