Aponte, Rhude Earn NCBWA All-Atlantic Region Honors

INDIANA, Pa. — Two of the biggest catalysts behind IUP baseball's 2026 season earned regional recognition Friday as Ricardo Aponte and Camden Rhude were named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-Atlantic Region Team.

Both Crimson Hawks earned second-team honors, becoming two of the 34 student-athletes recognized across the Atlantic Region.

Aponte established himself as the emotional and offensive leader of the Crimson Hawks throughout the season. Playing primarily behind the plate while also spending time at multiple defensive positions, the junior became one of the most versatile and productive players in the PSAC.

Batting out of the leadoff spot, Aponte hit .339 with a 1.087 OPS while tying for the team lead with eight home runs. His ability to both get on base and provide power made him one of the most dangerous hitters in the region.

Aponte drove in a team-high 43 runs while also scoring a team-best 53 runs, consistently setting the tone offensively for IUP. Of his 58 hits on the season, 22 went for extra bases, showcasing his combination of speed and power.

On the basepaths, Aponte was equally impactful, leading the Crimson Hawks with 20 stolen bases in 26 attempts. His aggressive play style and leadership helped fuel an IUP offense that remained among the top units in the PSAC throughout the season.

Rhude's emergence during the 2026 campaign turned him into one of the breakout players in the Atlantic Region.

After playing a limited role earlier in his career, Rhude exploded offensively this spring, becoming one of the top hitters in the conference while primarily serving as IUP's designated hitter.

The sophomore started 43 of the 44 games he appeared in and led the Crimson Hawks in both batting average and OPS. Rhude finished the season hitting .392 while driving in 42 runs and scoring another 42.

His power surge became one of the biggest stories of IUP's season. Rhude tied for the team lead with eight home runs and produced extra-base hits at an impressive rate, with more than half of his hits going for extra bases.

As the season progressed, Rhude became one of the hottest hitters in the PSAC, delivering key offensive performances during IUP's late-season push toward the conference tournament.

The All-Atlantic Region selections add to an already impressive postseason for both players after each earned All-PSAC honors earlier this spring.

Behind the performances of Aponte, Rhude and a veteran-heavy lineup, IUP advanced to the PSAC Tournament semifinals for the fourth consecutive season and remained in the conversation for an NCAA regional berth deep into the postseason.
