INDIANA, Pa. — Success in the classroom matched the success on the field for IUP softball this season as five Crimson Hawks were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Tuesday.
Maddie Griffin, Delaney Patella, Reagan Rand, Madison Pikula and Emily Miller each earned the academic distinction following IUP's historic 2026 campaign.
The award recognizes student-athletes for both academic and athletic achievement throughout the season.
Leading the group was Griffin, who was previously named the PSAC Scholar-Athlete Award winner during the PSAC Championships. The honor is the conference equivalent of the NCAA Elite 90 Award and is presented to the top scholar-athlete competing at the championship event.
Griffin completed her undergraduate studies in accounting with a perfect 4.0 grade point average before continuing her education in IUP's master's of business administration program, where she also maintained a 4.0 GPA.
Patella, Pikula, Rand and Miller were all key contributors on the field during the Crimson Hawks' run to the PSAC semifinals.
Patella, who earned all-region honors this postseason, graduated with a degree in fashion studies while compiling a 3.8 GPA over her collegiate career.
Pikula, another all-region selection and one of the most decorated players in program history, earned a 3.84 GPA while studying kinesiology, health and sport science.
Rand also studied kinesiology, health and sport science and maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA while serving as one of the leaders behind the plate for the Crimson Hawks.
Miller rounded out the group with a 4.0 GPA as a biology major.
All five student-athletes also helped power one of the most successful seasons in recent program history.
IUP finished the season with 38 victories, tying the program record for wins in a season while advancing to the PSAC Tournament semifinals.
The success extended beyond competition, as 14 softball student-athletes earned a 4.0 GPA during the spring semester, highlighting the program's commitment to excellence both on the field and in the classroom.
