Junior mid-distance runner Austin Cooper has been chosen as an IUP Athlete of the Week, for the week ending on Sunday, April 2.

The weekly honor is his fourth of the 2016-17 year and sixth of his career. It marks the first award for the spring outdoor season. Cooper hit an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time in the 800 meters as IUP competed in Cincinnati's Oliver Nikoloff Open on Saturday. He finished with a personal best time of 1:52.12, winning the event full of Division I competition.

His time is the second fastest in the PSAC and 16th fastest in Division II this season.

Cooper also ran a PSAC qualifying time in the 1500 meters of 3:58.84, finishing fourth in the event.
