Baseball catcher Wes Carson has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week, which was announced by the Sports Information Office on Monday morning.
Carson was IUP baseball's top hitter last week, going a combined 8-for-15 (.533) with a .933 slugging percentage in six outings. Splitting his time between catcher and designated hitter, he did most of his weekly damage in the four-game series against Seton Hill, raking a double, triple, and home run, while driving in three runs and scoring six times.
His home run came in the opening game of the Seton Hill series, a three-run jack that proved to be the difference in a 9-8 victory. Carson had a .632 on-base percentage, getting on base four more times with walks. He also didn't strike out a single time during the week.
It's Carson's first career IUP weekly honor.
