Softball shortstop Hannah Mercer has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week, which was announced by the Sports Information Office on Monday morning.
Mercer hit .500 last week, going 14-for-28 at the plate as she helped the Crimson Hawks to a 6-2 overall record in four doubleheaders. The senior boasted a .679 slugging percentage, hitting two doubles and a home run, scoring nine times while driving in eight RBI.
She had three three-hit games, extending her hit streak to nine games, while improving her batting average from .340 to .377 on the year. For good measure, Mercer was also named IUP's 2016-17 Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year at a banquet on Thursday night.
It's Mercer's third IUP weekly honor of the season and fourth of her career.
